How texture and stain created premium façade wood

Added value

The combination of brushing, texturing, and full-side staining significantly increased both the visual and functional value of the timber — resulting in an average price increase of 15–20% per square meter.

Efficient one-pass process

By integrating brushing, cross-cut texturing, and staining into a single pass, the production process became more streamlined and faster — without compromising on quality.

Premium look & feel

The fine-sawn surface and consistent stain absorption gave the wood a high-end, crafted appearance that better meets end-customer expectations and stands out in the market.

The process

In a saturated market for façade timber, a Dutch producer of Swedish Rabat and profiled timber sought ways to create added value. Their goal? Not just protecting the wood, but enhancing its aesthetics and durability through a high-quality, all-around stain treatment. They turned to Trivec with a clear question: How can we treat our timber effectively on all sides and achieve a higher selling price?

The challenge was twofold. On the one hand, the timber needed to be fully coated with stain, requiring technical precision. On the other hand, the client wanted more than protection: they were aiming for a premium product that would stand out in the market.

An analysis of the current production process revealed suboptimal stain absorption. Moreover, the timber lacked the texture or structure that could enhance visual appeal. A stain alone wasn’t enough — it was about the overall experience of the product.

Together with the client, Trivec tested various mechanical treatments in the Experience Centre — including brushing, impregnating, and texturing.

The chosen solution:

  • The timber was first mechanically brushed to open the surface and improve absorption.

  • A fine-sawn ‘cross cut’ effect was applied to add visual and functional value.

  • Finally, the wood was fully stained on all sides in a single pass.

This combination proved to be a winning formula.

All aspects of the configuration were documented in a technical drawing, enabling the client to scale up production with confidence.
