The customer is an exclusive, small-scale artisan manufacturer based in Belgium, specializing in crafting premium, high-end oak wine racks.
Because every single side of the individual oak planks remains fully visible in the final product, the finishing process demands flawless execution. The planks are treated with high-quality oil, but the client discovered that traditional sanding alone was insufficient. The oil was being absorbed unevenly into the wood grain, resulting in a patchy, inconsistent appearance a problem that became even more prominent when working with pigmented or colored oils.
Operating as a boutique business where one person handles production, the client needed a reliable, simple, and compact method to eliminate blotchiness and achieve a perfect, high-end finish without complicating the workflow.
Rather than changing the oil compound, Trivec focused on perfecting the wood preparation. By introduces a light, highly controlled brushing phase prior to coating, we created a more uniform surface tension across the wood, forcing the oil to absorb perfectly evenly. The goal here was absolute finish control rather than heavy texturing.
To keep the operation highly efficient for a single craftsman, we implemented a compact machine with a 600 mm working width that can process one or two planks simultaneously. The innovative feature of this custom setup is a specialized side brush at the infeed.
This enables a clever two-step, all-around treatment process:
Pass 1: The machine brushes the top surface and one side of the plank simultaneously.
Pass 2: The operator flips the plank, and the second pass completes the underside and the remaining side.
Through extensive collaborative testing with different brush filaments, speeds, and rotation directions, we fine-tuned the system to deliver exceptional results:
