Proven for more than ten years

The first Trivec brushing machine is still in operation after more than ten years. The customer returned not to replace it, but to expand his possibilities.

More freedom in wood structuring

With three different structuring technologies, the customer can determine the right surface treatment and machine combination for every individual project.

Built for the long term

Alongside the new machines, the customer also invested in brushes, wear parts and spare parts to keep production reliable and independent for many years to come.

From one trusted machine to a complete toolbox for wood structuring

More than ten years ago, a customer from San Francisco invested in a Trivec Brushing Machine with two brush units. The machine was purchased for structuring wooden surfaces and is still in production today.

This is not a standard production environment. The company creates high-end custom projects, including wooden floors, staircases, tables and other interior elements. For every project, careful consideration is given to the wood species, shape, surface texture and final finish.

Much of the work is carried out in-house, with craftsmanship and manual finishing playing an important role in the process. The machines therefore do not determine what can be produced. Instead, they are tools that allow the customer to give every project its own appearance and character.

When the customer wanted to further expand the possibilities for creating different wood textures, he returned to Trivec.

His initial request was remarkably simple: he wanted another machine just like the one he had purchased more than ten years earlier.

Not because the existing machine needed to be replaced. Quite the opposite. Because it had performed reliably for more than a decade, he wanted to invest in another Trivec Brushing Machine with two brush units.

During our conversations, however, a broader question emerged: what new surface structures could be created by combining several different technologies?

For a company where almost every product is custom-made, the objective was not to produce one standard texture. The customer wanted the freedom to start with the desired end result and then select the most suitable process for each individual project.

The foundation of the new investment remained the machine where the relationship had started more than ten years earlier: a new Trivec Brushing Machine with two individually adjustable brush units.

By combining different brushes and settings, the customer can create a wide variety of surface structures and finishes.

Adding deeper and more tactile structures

During our discussions, the Trivec Scrub Brushing Machine also came into view. This machine uses rotating disc brushes that remove the softer parts of the wood surface, making it possible to create deeper, more pronounced and tactile three-dimensional structures.

After reviewing and discussing several examples, it became clear that this technology was a strong match for the type of custom work produced by the customer. The Scrub Brushing Machine was therefore added to the order.

Introducing another structuring technique

During a visit to Trivec, the customer was introduced to a third technology: the Trivec Cross Cutter.

Where conventional brushing mainly works with the natural direction of the wood grain, the Cross Cutter can create a random bandsaw effect across the surface. By adjusting settings such as speed, pressure and the movement of the Cross Cutter belt, a wide range of different effects can be produced.

The Trivec Tapper System varies the pressure applied to the wood, helping to create a natural pattern without an obvious repeating structure.

This technique also fitted perfectly with the customer’s creative approach to woodworking. What started as a request for one additional brushing machine therefore developed into an investment in three different machines.

Three machines, many more possibilities

The real strength lies in the combination of the different technologies.

For a subtle brushed surface, the conventional brushing machine may be all that is required. For a deeper and more tactile structure, the Scrub Brushing Machine can be used. When a rustic bandsaw effect is desired, the Cross Cutter can be added.

The different technologies can also be used in sequence, opening up the possibility of creating entirely new surface effects.

No fixed production line

This flexibility is also reflected in the layout of the customer’s workshop.

In the large production facility, a dedicated storage structure has been created for the machines. Depending on the requirements of a project, the appropriate machine can be removed from storage using a forklift and positioned on the production floor.

If several treatments are required, multiple machines can be positioned in line. This means the production setup can be configured differently for every project.

Instead of the machines determining what can be produced, the desired result determines which machines are used.

And the original machine?

It is staying in production.

The first Trivec brushing machine is still operational after more than ten years and will not be replaced by the new investment.

Because the older machine has less power than the new model, it can, for example, be fitted with softer brushes for a lighter final treatment of the surface. This gives the original machine a new role within the production process and allows it to continue adding value alongside the new equipment.

Prepared for the years ahead

The customer is once again looking at the investment from a long-term perspective. The machines should not only perform well today, but remain reliable and productive for many years to come.

For that reason, the investment includes not only the machines themselves, but also additional brushes, wear parts, spare parts and other essential components.

What started more than ten years ago with one Trivec brushing machine has now developed into a complete toolbox for wood structuring.

The original machine remains in operation and will be joined by a new Brushing Machine with two brush units, a Scrub Brushing Machine and a Cross Cutter.

For the customer, this means greater creative freedom. Instead of being limited to one structuring method, each project can start with the desired result. The right combination of wood species, surface texture and finishing process can then be selected to achieve it.
