From separate steps to one integrated line

The customer is a specialized wood finishing company utilizing advanced oxidative and reactive oils to deliver high-quality, durable wood products.

When working with oxidative and reactive oils, meticulous surface preparation is critical, as the brushing phase directly dictates how the oil is absorbed and how the final finish appears. However, as a small business where the owner handles the majority of the operational work, executing this process in separate, unlinked steps was becoming a major bottleneck.

Every additional manual handling step consumed valuable time and increased the margin for error. The client required a smarter, streamlined workflow that could maximize efficiency without compromising the premium quality of the finish.

Instead of relying on disconnected production steps, we engineered a single, integrated finishing line where the brushing and coating processes are directly connected. The line begins with a dedicated brushing machine for optimal surface preparation, which feeds immediately into an all-in-one roller coater equipped with two application sections and two brushing sections.

A crucial engineering detail in this setup is the inclusion of a 2.5-meter conveyor belt between the brushing machine and the coating line. This buffer zone allows the wooden workpiece to stabilize and settle after brushing before any oil is applied, preventing unwanted surface tension or irregularities.

The transition to a continuous, automated workflow delivered significant operational advantages:

  • Maximum time savings: Merging preparation and finishing into a single pass eliminates intermediate handling.

  • Increased efficiency: Allows a single operator or small business owner to manage the entire finishing process effortlessly.

  • Consistent quality: The integrated setup and stabilizing conveyor ensure a uniform, high-quality oil absorption across all workpieces.

  • Error reduction: Fewer manual touchpoints mean a significantly lower chance of damage or finishing mistakes.
